Prunus avium 'Napoleon' is a small, bushy, deciduous, fruiting tree with ovate, toothed, dark green leaves, orange and red in autumn, and masses of simple, fragrant, white flowers with yellow stamens, blooming in late spring. Flowers are followed by large, sweet, aromatic, glossy yellow cherries, flushed red when mature, ready for harvesting in late summer. It is sometimes called “white cherry” referring to its pale yellow flesh. Prunus avium 'Napoleon' can grow in a wide range of soils, but prefers fertile, loamy, slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soils in full sun. It doesn’t tolerate waterlogged soils. It can withstand frost, but needs to be sheltered form harsh winter winds. Late frosts may damage the flower buds. Fairly tolerant of wind. It requires a pollinating partner nearby. Low maintenance plant. Sweet Cherry 'Napoléon' is an excellent specimen plant or planted against a wall or fence in small cottage, wildlife, or urban gardens. Heavy and reliable cropper.
