It has long, narrow, twisted, dark green leaves and inconspicuous, female, long, yellow catkins in spring. Salix babylonica var. pekinensis 'Tortuosa' can adapt to a wide range of soils, but prefers deep, moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Best to be grown in sunny sites and moist soils and avoid dry conditions. Tolerant of light shade. It is resistant to frost and exposed positions. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require pruning.
