Rhododendron Leo is a stunning evergreen shrub, renowned for its impressive size, vibrant blooms, and reliable performance in gardens. This variety is part of the larger Rhododendron family, which is admired for its rich colour and dense foliage. Leo is particularly appreciated for its strong, upright habit, typically growing to a height of 1.5 to 2.5 metres with a similar spread, making it an ideal choice for medium to large gardens.

The leaves of Rhododendron Leo are glossy, dark green, and leathery, creating a rich backdrop that enhances the plant’s striking flowers. In late spring to early summer, the shrub bursts into life with large clusters of funnel-shaped flowers. The blossoms are a deep coral-pink with subtle yellow markings near the throat, providing a vibrant and eye-catching display. The vivid flowers contrast beautifully with the deep green foliage, drawing attention in any garden setting.

Leo thrives in acidic, well-drained soil, and prefers a partially shaded location, making it well-suited for woodland gardens or borders. It is also relatively hardy, tolerating temperatures as low as -15°C when established. Once planted, it requires minimal care, though it benefits from occasional feeding with a specialised fertiliser for acid-loving plants, as well as being watered in dry periods.

This cultivar is valued not only for its beauty but also for its resilience and longevity, often thriving for many years with little attention once settled. Rhododendron Leo is a superb addition to any garden, offering both seasonal beauty and year-round structure.
