Prunus Shogetsu (Shimizu-zakura) is a small, beautiful, ornamental, broad-spreading, flowering cherry tree of upright spreading habit. Its gracefully arching branches are covered with bright green leaves, orange and red in autumn. Delicate, slightly fragrant, double, pale pink to pure white flowers open from pink buds and bloom in late spring, hanging in loose panicles. The Shogetsu Cherry Tree thrives in relatively fertile, moist, well-drained soils, but will tolerate a wide range of soils, as long as they are well-drained. It is resistant to frost, but should be protected from strong winds. Late frosts may damage the flower buds. Tolerant of urban pollution. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require much pruning. Prunus Shogetsu (Shimizu-zakura), with its gentle, elegant flowers is one of the most popular Japanese cherry trees. It looks stunning as a specimen plant or planted in groups in informal, cottage, and city gardens. Excellent in urban areas – avenues, streets and parks.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
