Prunus avium 'Early Rivers' is a compact, spreading, deciduous cherry tree with ovate, toothed, dark green leaves, attractive orange and red in autumn, and masses of lovely, fragrant, white flowers in mid-spring. Flowers are followed by the abundance of dark red cherries and sometimes it crops several times. Attractive to bees, butterflies, and birds. Prunus avium 'Early Rivers' can adapt to a wide range of soils, but prefers fertile, loamy, slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soils in full sun. It can’t tolerate waterlogged soils. Once established, resistant to drought. It can withstand frost, but needs to be sheltered form harsh winter winds. Late frosts may damage the flower buds. It is not self-fertile, requires an early-flowering pollinating partner. Sweet Cherry 'Early Rivers' is a wonderful cherry tree suitable for small informal, cottage, woodland, and urban gardens. Excellent as a specimen plant. Great when grown against a fence or a wall. Good for growing in large containers.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
