It is a popular ornamental tree because of its unique, dense foliage and beautiful blue-green needles that can add an attractive contrast to any landscape. The 'Glauca' cultivar is notable for its stunning blue-grey needles that grow to about 1 inch in length. The needles are arranged in pairs, and the tree produces tiny cones that are about 1 inch long. The bark of the tree is a reddish-brown color that can be quite striking in the winter months when the tree is bare.
