Pinus parviflora 'Aoi', commonly known as Japanese white pine, is a dwarf cultivar cherished for its aesthetic appeal in both residential and botanical settings. This variant boasts a distinctive blue-green needle foliage that adds a splash of color year-round. Its growth is slow and maintains a compact, irregular form, making it an excellent choice for bonsai enthusiasts and those with limited garden space.
Typically, 'Aoi' reaches an ultimate height of approximately 5 to 6 feet, with a similar spread, ideal for small garden landscapes, rock gardens, and as a focal point in mixed conifer collections. It thrives best in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil. This cultivar is quite hardy and adaptable, resistant to many diseases that affect other pines, making it a robust choice for various garden settings.
Its origin from the mountainous regions of Japan indicates its preference for cooler climates and its ability to withstand harsh winters, making it a versatile addition to gardens.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.
About Us
During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.
What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
