Pinus mugo 'Humpy' is a dwarf evergreen conifer that belongs to the family Pinaceae. This unique variety of mountain pine is known for its compact and low-growing habit. It typically grows to a height of 1 to 2 feet and spreads up to 4 feet wide. The branches are densely packed with short, stiff needles that are dark green in color. The 'Humpy' cultivar is valued for its unusual, irregular shape. The branches grow in a gnarled, twisted manner, which gives the plant an interesting texture and character. It is a slow-growing plant that is perfect for rock gardens, border plantings, or as a specimen plant. In the spring, the 'Humpy' cultivar produces small, brown cones that add visual interest to the plant. This variety is low maintenance and prefers well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade. It is drought tolerant once established and is hardy in USDA zones 2-7.
