Clusters of small, dropping, white, bell-shaped flowers bloom in early spring and are followed by seed capsules. Pieris japonica 'Variegata' thrives in fertile, organically rich, acidic, medium moisture, well-drained soils. It grows best in partial shade, but is tolerant of full sun. It is very resistant to frost, but needs to be sheltered from harsh winter winds, especially when young. It can withstand urban pollution and is suitable for growing in cities.
