Malus ‘Sun Rival’ is a small, semi-weeping, umbrella-shaped, deciduous tree with elegant, arching branches and mid-green leaves, yellow in autumn. Masses of lovely, lovely, white to soft pink flowers open from bright pink buds along the branches and bloom in spring. Flowers are followed by small, cherry-like, bright red fruits, in autumn. These attractive crab apples persist on branches throughout the winter providing food for wildlife. Crab Apple 'Sun Rival' is an adaptable plant that can grow in various types of soils, except waterlogged, but prefers deep, fertile, loamy, moist, and well-drained soils. It thrives in full sun, but tolerates partial shade. It can withstand urban pollution. Resistant to most of diseases. It’s a self-fertile plant that can be useful as a pollinator for other plants. Requires minimal pruning. Malus ‘Sun Rival’ is a gorgeous flowering tree, ideal for small, informal, cottage, or urban gardens. Perfect as a specimen or accent plant and suitable for growing in containers.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
