Magnolia 'Betty' is a vigorous, late-blooming, deciduous shrub or small tree with rounded, shrubby habit, ovate dark green leaves, with shades of copper-red in spring, turning yellow to bronze in autumn. Beautiful, large, cup-shaped, lilac pink to purple pink flowers, white inside, bloom in late spring and early summer. Magnolia 'Betty’ grows best in organically rich, humus-rich, slightly acidic, medium moisture, well-drained soils. It likes full sun or partial shade. It is resistant to frost, but needs to be sheltered from harsh, drying winter winds. Since it is a late-bloomer, flower buds are rarely exposed to late frosts. Low maintenance plant, requires minimal pruning. ‘Betty' is a cross between M. liliiflora 'Nigra' and M. stellata 'Rosea'. It’s a beautiful flowering shrub, perfect for informal, cottage, urban, and woodland gardens. Great as a specimen or accent plant. Excellent for foundation plantings, mixed and shrub borders. Suitable for informal hedges and screens.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
