Ligustrum japonicum 'Variegatum' is an upright, dense, bushy, evergreen shrub or small tree with ovate, leathery, glossy, dark green leaves with creamy yellow margins. Panicles of small, fragrant, creamy white flowers bloom in late spring and are followed by clusters of rounded, shiny, black berries which ripe in autumn and persist on branches throughout winter. Ligustrum japonicum 'Variegatum' can adapt to a wide range of soils, except too wet or waterlogged, but grows best in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils. It thrives in full sun or light shade. Once established, resistant to drought. It can withstand frost, wind, and urban pollution, but needs to be sheltered from harsh winter winds. Adaptable to coastal conditions. Generally, pest-free. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require pruning. Ligustrum japonicum 'Variegatum' is perfect as a specimen plant or for hedges and screens in cottage, coastal, and urban gardens. Excellent for banks and slopes for erosion control. Very good as a windbreak.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
