Leucothoe ‘Scarletta’ ('Zeblid') is a dense, compact, symmetrical, evergreen shrub with slightly arching branches, and very attractive, slender, ovate, pointed, glossy, leathery leaves, colourful all year round - bright scarlet in spring, deep green in summer, burgundy red in autumn, and bronze to purple in winter. Small, urn-shaped, creamy white flowers bloom in spring. Leucothoe ‘Scarletta’ ('Zeblid') grows best in humus-rich, acidic, sandy to clay, moist, well-drained soils. It prefers partial shade but is tolerant of heavy shade and full sun as long as it has consistent moisture. Doesn’t like drought and wind. It is resistant to frost, but needs to be sheltered form harsh, winter winds. Generally, pest-free and disease-free. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require pruning. Dog Hobble ‘Scarletta” is a stunning shrub suitable for cottage and woodland gardens. it is perfect as a groundcover or for garden edging. Excellent for flower beds, shrub borders, and banks and slopes for erosion control. Great for low hedges.
