Lavandula × intermedia 'Grosso', commonly known as Lavandin 'Grosso', is a popular hybrid lavender plant renowned for its prolific flowering and aromatic properties. This robust perennial is a cross between Lavandula angustifolia and Lavandula latifolia, combining the best traits of both parent species.

Lavandin 'Grosso' is particularly valued for its vigorous growth and abundant blooms. It typically reaches a height of 60-90 cm (24-36 inches) and spreads to about the same width. The plant forms a dense, rounded mound of silvery-green foliage, which remains evergreen in mild climates, adding year-round interest to the garden.

The flower spikes of 'Grosso' are long and slender, rising well above the foliage on sturdy stems. Blooming from mid to late summer, the spikes are densely packed with fragrant, deep violet-blue flowers. These flowers are not only visually striking but also highly attractive to pollinators, including bees and butterflies.

One of the standout features of Lavandin 'Grosso' is its strong, sweet fragrance, which is more intense than that of English lavender. This makes it a favourite for use in the production of essential oils, potpourris, and sachets. The plant's robust nature and high oil content have made it a staple in commercial lavender fields.

'Grosso' thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It is highly drought-tolerant once established, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and low-maintenance gardens. The plant also displays good resistance to pests and diseases, further enhancing its appeal.

Pruning is essential to maintain the plant's shape and encourage new growth. It is best done in late summer after flowering or in early spring before new growth begins. With proper care, Lavandin 'Grosso' can provide years of beauty and fragrance in the garden.
