Juniperus procumbens 'Nana' is a compact, low-growing, mat-forming, coniferous, evergreen shrub with long branches that spread out in sprays. The branches are densely covered with prickly, needle-like, bluish-green leaves, slightly purplish in winter. Cones seeds are often absent in cultivated plants. Juniperus procumbens 'Nana' can adapt to a wide range of soils, even poor, dry, and sandy, but not waterlogged. It thrives in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils and prefers hot, sunny areas. It can also grow well in partial shade. Once established, resistant to drought. Tolerant of air pollution and urban conditions. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require pruning. Decumbent juniper 'Nana' is an attractive, slow-growing shrub perfect as a ground cover, suitable for informal, cottage, and urban gardens. Great looking in rock and gravel gardens. Excellent for banks and slope for erosion control. Good for foundation plantings. It grows up over obstacles therefore great for cascading over walls. Suitable for bonsai.
