Hydrangea Querquifolia is an upright, spreading, rounded, suckering, deciduous shrub with an attractive, peeling bark and large, deeply-lobed, oak-like, dark green leaves, that turn bronze and burgundy in autumn. Conical flowerheads are large, creamy-white to pink with many sterile, star-shaped florets. Hydrangea Querquifolia grows well in moist soils, but thrives in organically rich, medium moisture, well-drained soils. It prefers partial shade, especially in hot areas, but tolerates full sun. It can withstand cold winters, but needs to be sheltered form harsh winds. Generally, disease-free and pest-free. Very resilient and adaptable plant. This tough and beautiful hydrangea, with its interesting peeling bark and beautiful autumn foliage, is lovely all year round and an excellent addition to any informal, cottage, woodland, or urban garden. It is great as an accent plant, but perfect when planted in groups or masses and used for informal hedges and screens, shrub borders and mixed borders. Suitable for growing in containers.
