Hibiscus syriacus 'Ardens' is a compact, bushy, dense, upright, deciduous shrub, with unique, ovate, toothed, narrowly lobed leaves. Beautiful, large, funnel-shaped, lilac-purple flowers with dark red throats bloom in summer and early spring. Flowers abundantly but each flower lasts only for one day. Hibiscus syriacus 'Ardens' prefers fertile, organically rich, neutral, moist, well-drained soils in warm, sunny locations. It needs long, hot summers to flower well. Once established, resistant to drought. Very resilient plant, tolerant of heat, humidity, coastal conditions and urban pollution. Very resistant to frost. It has no serious pest or disease problems. Low maintenance plant, requires minimal or no pruning. Hibiscus syriacus 'Ardens' is a beautiful, exotic-looking, flowering shrub, very easy to grow and maintain. Perfect for mixed and shrub borders, wall-side borders, and informal hedges and screens. Excellent for foundation plantings, flower beds, and for growing in containers. Suitable for cottage, coastal, and urban gardens.
