Fargesia papyrifera ‘Blue Dragon’ is an unusual, highly ornamental, vigorous, fast-growing, medium-sized, clamp-forming bamboo plant with upright to slightly arching habit and amazing blue-grey to olive green canes. The canes eventually arch under the weight of masses of evergreen, narrow, bright green leaves. It flowers rarely because flowering cycles are very long, up to 150 years. Blue Dragon Bamboo tolerates most soil types but prefers fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soils, in full sun and partial shade. It doesn’t like constantly waterlogged and extremely dry soils. It should be protected from harsh, drying winds. Low maintenance plant. It grows vigorously and needs adequate space. Generally, pest-free and disease-free. Slugs may damage new shoots. Fargesia papyrifera ‘Blue Dragon’ is a very ornamental, exotic-looking plant, great as a solitary specimen or planted in groups. Perfect for hedges and screens, especially attractive near waters, suitable for growing in containers.
