Fagus sylvatica ‘Dawyck Purple’ is a crossing between F. sylvatica 'Dawyck' and a red-leaved beech. It’s a medium-sized, fastigiated, deciduous tree of columnar, upright habit with attractive, broadly oval, purple leaves - reddish purple in spring, deep purple in summer and burgundy purple in autumn. Small, inconspicuous, yellowish flowers bloom in spring and are followed by small beech nuts in autumn. Fagus sylvatica ‘Dawkye Purple’ prefers humus rich, moist, well-drained soils and doesn’t tolerate too wet or waterlogged soils. It thrives in full sun or partial shade. It is moderately tolerant of frost, air pollution and wind. Generally, doesn’t have any serious problems with pests or diseases. Easy to grow, low maintenance plant. It can be difficult to transplant. Fagus sylvatica ‘Dawkye Purple’ is a gorgeous columnar, perfect as a specimen plant or in larger groups, great for avenues and narrow streets. It can be used for informal hedges and screens.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
