Corylus maxima 'Purpurea' is a tall, round, capricious growing deciduous shrub or small multi-stemmed tree. Its wide ovate, toothed leaves are deep purple in spring and dark green and purple in summer. Brown red male catkins appear in late winter before the leaves and hang loosely from bare branches. Female flowers are inconspicuous and followed by edible nuts in autumn. Corylus avellana 'Purpurea' can grow in average garden soil, but prefers rich, slightly alkaline, moist, well-drained soils. Heavy clays should be avoided. It thrives in full sun, but tolerates part shade. Root suckers should be removed to maintain its appearance. Generally, pest-free and disease-free. It can withstand frost and wind. It tolerates air pollution and paving, therefore, suitable for urban and industrial areas. Corylus avellana 'Purpurea' is a great choice for hedges and screens, shrub borders, patio edges, or along sidewalks. Perfect for informal, cottage, urban, and roof gardens. Suitable for growing in containers.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
