Cornus kousa Weisse Fontaine is a vase-shaped, capricious growing shrub or small tree with an interesting smooth, grey bark and semi-open crown. Oval, pointed, variegated green leaves turn orange and red in autumn. Four large, pure white, petal-like bracts surround clusters of tiny, greenish true flowers that attract bees and butterflies. Flowers are followed by pink-red, raspberry-like fruit in autumn, mostly eaten by birds. Cornus kousa Weisse Fontaine is a lovely tree with masses of flowers creating cascading fountain effect. It prefers fertile, slightly acidic, soils, moist but well-drained. It grows well in full sun and partial shade. It is resistant to frost and drought, and can withstand some wind.
