Ceanothus ‘Skylark’ is a compact, bushy, dome-shaped, evergreen shrub with small, toothed, glossy, leathery, dark green leaves and large clusters of tiny, fragrant, deep blue flowers blooming in late spring and early summer. Flowers are followed by hard, nut-like capsules. Attractive to birds and butterflies. Ceanothus ‘Skylark’ prefers average, alkaline to neutral, moist, well-drained soils, but can adapt to a wide range of soil conditions. It thrives in full sun. Once established, it is resistant to drought. It needs to be sheltered from harsh winds. Mediterranean climate plant, it is tolerant of sea salt and maritime conditions. Tolerant of urban pollution. Easy to grow, but difficult to transplant. Low maintenance plant. Californian lilac ‘Skylark’ is a wonderful shrub, perfect as a specimen plant in cottage, coastal, urban, and gravel gardens. Great for banks and slopes, shrub borders, and wall-side borders. Excellent for informal, flowering hedges and screens. Suitable for growing in containers.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
