Campsis grandiflora, or Chinese Trumpet Creeper, is an attractive vigorous climber with coarsely toothed, medium to dark green leaves with 7-9 leaflets. Very attractive, large, trumpet-shaped, dark orange to red flowers with yellow throats bloom in late spring or early summer and are followed by bean-like seed pods. Chinese Trumpet Creeper is easily grown in average, moist but well-drained soil, in full sun. It can grow in partial shade as well, but for the abundance of great-looking flowers, full sun is essential. It is somewhat tolerant to drought and frost. Generally, pest-free and disease-free. It cannot grow without a support system. Campsis grandiflora is a rapid-growing vine that can sometimes become aggressive, but much less than some other climbers. It is popular for its exotic flowers and rapid growth. It can be used to cover fences, walls, arbors or trellis.
