Acer pseudoplatanus Worleii, or Golden Sycamore, is an old German cultivar of the native sycamore. It is a medium-sized, rounded, deciduous tree with smooth gray bark and large, 5-lobed leaves, soft yellow in spring, green in summer, and golden in autumn. Inconspicuous, yellow green flowers emerge with leaves in spring and are followed by winged samaras. This plant is very resilient and easy to care for. It will grow without problems on any type of soil as long as it is well-drained. It prefers full sun or partial shade. Since it tolerates draught, wind, urban pollution and salt, it’s a popular choice for planting in cities and exposed sites. It can be a strong defence against strong winds and salt-laden air, therefore, perfect for use in coastal areas. It’s important to emphasize that Worelii’s leaves and fruit are highly poisonous for horses.
