Acer palmatum 'Shirazz' is a distinctive cultivar of Japanese maple known for its vibrant and variegated foliage, presenting a delightful array of pink, red, and green shades, with the colors intensifying in the fall. This deciduous tree is celebrated for its elegant and graceful structure, exhibiting a compact, upright, and bushy habit, making it an exquisite choice for smaller gardens, landscapes, or containers.
'Shirazz' usually attains a height of around 10-15 feet, thriving in partial to full sun conditions, but it appreciates some shade in the hottest parts of the day to prevent leaf scorch. It performs best in well-drained, moist, and fertile soils, displaying a preference for slightly acidic to neutral pH levels.
Beyond its striking foliage, 'Shirazz' contributes a unique aesthetic appeal through its layered branching pattern and its smooth, gray bark. It's a relatively low-maintenance tree, requiring minimal pruning to maintain its shape and remove any dead or diseased wood.
'Shirazz' is also known for its resilience to common pests and diseases, demonstrating a particular resistance to leaf spot. It’s a fabulous selection for creating a focal point in the garden, providing year-round interest through its evolving color palette and sophisticated architectural form.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.
About Us
During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.
What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
