Abelia ‘Hopleys’ is a small, compact, semi-evergreen shrub with glossy, oval, bright green leaves with ivory-white margins, buttery yellow in spring, pinkish in autumn. Attractive, lightly-scented, tubular, white, lilac-tinged flowers bloom in clusters in spring and summer. Attractive to bees and butterflies. Abelia ‘Hopleys’ can grow in a wide range of soil conditions, but prefers average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. It thrives in full sun. It can withstand frost, but needs to be sheltered from harsh, winter winds. Best to be planted against a wall or protected by neighbouring shrubs. Generally, pest-free and disease-free. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require much pruning. Abelia ‘Hopleys’ is one of the most stable variegated abelias. It is great as a specimen plant or planted in groups in informal, cottage, wildlife, and urban gardens. Perfect for beds and borders, wall-side borders, and informal hedges. Suitable for growing in pots and containers.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
