Jacobinia, or Justicia, is a beautiful, tropical, upright growing, flowering, evergreen shrub with large, dark green leaves and stunning, slightly scented, pink to crimson tubular flowers that grow in clusters that resemble fireworks. It blooms from spring to fall and is attractive to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Jacobinia can be grown in various types of soil, but prefers fertile, hummus-rich, moist and well-drained soils, in partial shade. It needs consistent moisture, but doesn’t like soggy soils. Once established, it can tolerate some drought. It thrives in tropical and sub-tropical areas. It is generally, disease-free. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require pruning. Jacobinia is a wonderful, long-blooming, tropical plant, easy to grow in tropical areas and in containers. It is perfect for Mediterranean gardens. Great as a foundation plant in shady spots, or as a low flowering hedge. Excellent for beds and borders, and as a houseplant.
