Prunus ‘Pink Shell’ is a small, vigorous, ornamental, deciduous cherry tree of spreading habit and slightly pendulous branches, with light green leaves, turning orange and red in autumn. Lovely, single, cup-shaped, shell-pink flowers open from deep pink buds and bloom in abundance in spring. They are occasionally followed by bitter, black fruit. Attractive to bees and butterflies. Prunus ‘Pink Shell’ thrives in moderately fertile, moist, and well-drained soil, but is adaptable to a wide range of soils, as long as they are well-drained. It doesn’t like too wet, shallow, and chalky soils. It thrives in full sun, but needs to be sheltered. Late frosts may damage the flower buds. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require much pruning. Cherry 'Pink Shell' is a lovely flowering cherry tree, very decorative and perfect as a specimen plant in informal, cottage, wildlife, urban, and Japanese-style gardens. Great when planted in groups. Suitable for growing containers.
