Hibiscus syriacus 'Hamabo' is a vigorous, medium-sized, vase-shaped, deciduous, flowering shrub of upright habit with narrowly palmate, 3-lobed, toothed, dark green leaves and trumpet-shaped, pale pink flowers with pink-red veins and deep-red blotch in the centre, blooming from mid-summer to early autumn. Flowers bloom just for one day and are attractive to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Hibiscus syriacus 'Hamabo' thrives in average, organically rich, neutral, medium moisture, well-drained soils, but can adapt to various soil types. It prefers full sun, slightly shaded in the afternoon, but it tolerates partial shade. It can withstand heat and humidity, but needs to be protected from strong winds. Low maintenance, doesn’t require much pruning. Hibiscus syriacus 'Hamabo' is a wonderful flowering shrub with an exotic touch, great for cottage, urban, and coastal gardens. Perfect for flower and shrub borders, wall-side borders, informal hedges, and for growing in containers. Hibiscus flowers are edible and mostly used for making tea.
