Hibiscus ‘Red Heart’ is a vigorous, medium-sized, vase-shaped, deciduous, flowering shrub of upright habit with large, lobed, heart-shaped dark green leaves and trumpet-shaped, pure white flowers with deep red centres and yellow staminal columns, blooming from mid-summer to early autumn. Flowers bloom only one day and are attractive to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Hibiscus ‘Red Heart’ thrives in average, organically rich, slightly alkaline, medium moisture to wet, well-drained soils. It prefers full sun and best flowers are produced when grown in full sun, but it can tolerate partial shade. It can withstand heat and humidity, but needs to be protected from winds. Low maintenance, doesn’t require much pruning. Hibiscus ‘Red Heart’ is a lovely flowering shrub great for cottage and coastal gardens. Perfect for flower and shrub borders, wall-side borders, informal hedges, and for growing in containers. Hibiscus flowers are edible and mostly used for making tea.
