Cornus kousa Chinensis is an attractive, large, deciduous shrub or small tree with vase-shaped to rounded habit, exfoliating bark, and oval, dark green leaves that turn deep red and scarlet in autumn. Small, yellowish-green flower-heads are surrounded by four large, petal-like, creamy white bracts. Masses of these beautiful, star-shaped flowers cover the whole shrub in May and June, and are followed by berry-like, pinkish fruits, mostly eaten by birds. Cornus kousa Chinensis prefers organically rich, medium moisture, slightly acidic, well-drained soils. It thrives in full sun, but tolerates partial shade, and needs regular watering in dry weather. It is generally, pest-free and disease-free. It can withstand some frost and wind. Doesn’t require pruning. Cornus kousa Chinensis is a stunning plant with abundance of lovely, white flowers, attractive pink fruit and beautiful autumn foliage, therefore, a perfect specimen plant for any small garden. Great in groups around the house, in lawns and shrub borders.
