Cryptomeria japonica 'Vilmoriniana' is a dwarf form of Japanese cedar. It’s a small, compact, dense, mound-forming, coniferous, globe-shaped, evergreen shrub with short, stiff branches and olive green, needle-like leaves that may turn bronze and purple in winter, arranged spirally around branches. Cryptomeria japonica 'Vilmoriniana' is adaptable to almost any type of soil, as long as it is moist and well-drained. It prefers slightly acidic soil in full sun, but can grow in partial shade. It is resistant to frost, but needs to be sheltered from harsh, drying winds. Generally, pest-free and disease-free. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require pruning. It keeps its rounded shape naturally. Branches can be damaged by snow. Japanese cedar 'Vilmoriniana' is a very resilient little shrub, popular for its compact, globose shape. It’s a great alternative to boxwood. It is perfect as a specimen or accent plant in small cottage, urban, or rock and gravel gardens. Great when planted in groups, for mixed and shrub borders. Suitable for growing in containers.
