Magnolia ‘Star Wars’ is a compact, tidy, vase-shaped, deciduous shrub or small tree with large, ovate, glossy, dark green leaves, bright green in spring, and with yellow shades in autumn. Masses of spectacular, huge, mildly fragrant, cup-shaped, rosy-pink flowers, white inside, bloom in spring before the leaves and continue blooming for one to two months. Magnolia ‘Star Wars’ is adaptable to a wide range of soils, except too wet and waterlogged. It prefers fertile, organically rich, slightly acidic, moist, and well-drained soils. It is tolerant of frost, but needs to be sheltered form harsh, drying winds. Early frost can damage flower buds. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t need regular pruning. Magnolia ‘Star Wars’ is a cross between M. campbellii and M. liliiflora. Its small size and spectacular looks makes it perfect as a specimen plant in small informal, cottage, and urban gardens. Great for shrub borders, wall-side borders, and informal hedges and screens.
