Pinus cembra, commonly known as Swiss stone pine or Arolla pine, is a slow-growing evergreen coniferous tree that is native to the high altitude mountainous regions of central Europe. The tree is known for its straight, narrow trunk and its pyramid-shaped crown. The tree can grow up to 25-30 meters in height, with a trunk diameter of up to 1 meter. The Swiss stone pine is a hardy tree that is able to withstand harsh, cold temperatures, making it a popular choice for landscaping in alpine regions. The needles of the Swiss stone pine are long and thin, measuring about 5-9 cm in length. They are a dark green color and grow in bundles of five. The Swiss stone pine is known for its edible seeds, which are a popular food item in many parts of Europe. The seeds are enclosed in a hard, woody cone that can take up to 2-3 years to mature. Once the cones mature, they open up and release the seeds.
