Pyrus communis 'Concorde' is a compact deciduous tree with ovate green leaves, white flowers blooming in spring, and edible, well-flavoured pears with yellow-green to golden yellow skin, blushed red, ready for harvesting in October. The flesh is soft, sweet, and juicy. Reliable and heavy cropper. Pyrus communis 'Concorde' is a cross between a ‘Conference’ and ‘Doyenné du Comice’ pear and takes the best attributes of each – heavy cropping of ‘Conference’ and juicy flavour of ‘Comice’. It thrives in neutral, loamy or sandy, moist, well-drained soils, in full sun. It is resistant to frost, but needs to be sheltered from harsh winds. Flower buds may be damaged by late spring frosts. Very well suited for British climate. It is self-fertile but it crops better with another pollinator nearby. No serious disease problems. Requires regular pruning. ‘Concorde’ pears are wonderful all-purpose fruits, great when eaten fresh or cooked. When cooked they keep their shape and flavour even in high heat.
