Liquidambar styraciflua 'Albomarginata' is a highly ornamental, deciduous tree with conical, upright habit, and variegated, five-lobed, green leaves with irregular, white margins. Leaves are blushed pink in summer and turn attractive dark red and purple in autumn. Inconspicuous, greenish flowers bloom in spring and are followed by interesting, spiny, rounded fruit, green at first, then maturing to brown. Liquidambar styraciflua 'Albomarginata' grow best in moderately fertile, deep, slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soils, but can tolerate a wide range of soil types. It thrives in full sun to partial shade. Once established, somewhat resistant to drought and temporary flooding. Older plants are very resistant to frost. Adaptable to coastal and urban conditions. Generally, pest-free and disease-free. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require pruning. Sweet Gum 'Silver King', with its beautiful, colour-changing foliage, is a wonderful architectural tree, perfect for cottage, coastal, urban, and woodland gardens. Excellent shade or park tree. Needs a lot of space to grow.
