Ceanothus Victoria, or California Lilac Victoria, is a vigorous evergreen shrub with elegant, arching branches and glossy, dark green leaves. The beautiful, abundant clusters of indigo-blue flowers cover the whole bush in late spring and early summer. Ceanothus Victoria grows best in full sun. In hot and dry areas, it appreciates some afternoon shade. It prefers average, slightly alkaline, medium moistured, well-drained soils. It’s very easy to grow and low maintenance. Generally, pest-free and disease-free. Resistant to frost, drought and salt-laden sea air, but needs protection from hard winds. California Lilac Victoria was discovered in Canada and is probably the old cultivar ‘Skylark’ re-named after surviving few of Canadian harsh winters. It’s an attractive shrub and excellent addition to any sunny garden. Great choice for cottage and urban gardens, suitable for coastal areas. Perfect for flower beds and borders, perennial and shrub borders, informal hedges and screens, and for growing in containers.
