Pyrus communis 'Williams' Bon Chretien' is a bushy, pyramidal, deciduous fruit tree, with ovate, glossy dark green leaves, profusion of white flowers in spring, and heavy crops of large, golden yellow, tasty pears ready for harvest in September. Pyrus communis 'Williams' Bon Chretien' grows best in fertile, neutral, moist, well-drained soil, but can adapt to a wide range of soils. It prefers sunny, sheltered positions and the fruit is best when grown in full sun. Resistant to frost but since it is an early bloomer, flower buds may be damaged by spring frosts. It should be grown with a pollination partner for a reliable crop. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require much pruning. Pear 'Williams' Bon Chrétien' is one of the oldest English dessert pear varieties, primarily grown for its large, juicy fruits, but it is also a lovely ornamental tree perfect for small, informal and cottage gardens.
