Cornus alba 'Kesselringii' is a vigorous, multi-stemmed, suckering, deciduous shrub with dark red stems, stunning glossy, deep purple to black in winter. Elliptic to oval, dark green leaves turn red and purple in autumn. Tiny creamy flowers appear in flat-topped clusters and bloom in late spring and summer. Flowers are followed by white berries attractive to birds. Cornus alba 'Kesselringii' can adapt to a wide range of soils, even wet, dry and poor, but prefers fertile, rich, medium moisture, well-drained soils. It thrives in full sun and partial shade. Generally disease-free, but imore vulnerable in hot summer climates. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require, but benefits from pruning. White dogwood 'Kesselringii' is perfect when planted in masses and its glossy purplish black stems look stunning in winter landscape. Also appreciated for its attractive foliage and ornamental berries. Great for shrub borders, informal hedges and screens, or foundation plantings. Excellent for banks and slopes and erosion control.
