Cornus alba 'Midwinter Fire' is an upright, spreading, multi-stemmed, suckering, deciduous shrub with elliptic to ovate, medium-green leaves, beautiful golden-yellow in autumn, and tiny white flowers in flat-topped clusters blooming in summer. Flowers are followed by dark purple drupes. The most attractive feature of this shrub are its spectacular winter stems resembling fire - yellow at the base gradually turning bright orange and vivid red. Cornus alba 'Midwinter Fire' can adapt to a wide range of soils, but prefers fertile, rich, medium moist, well-drained soils. It thrives in full sun, but tolerates partial shade. Tolerant of coastal conditions and urban pollution. Generally, pest-free and disease-free. Low maintenance plant, it doesn’t require but can benefit from pruning. Dogwood 'Midwinter Fire' is a tough and easy to grow shrub, perfect for beds and borders, banks and slopes, or as a groundcover. Great-looking when planted in masses. Suitable for informal, cottage, coastal and urban gardens.
