Lavatera x clementii 'Barnsley' is a vigorous, fast-growing, long-flowering, medium-sized, loosely-branched, semi-evergreen shrub with soft, felted, greyish-green foliage. Masses of pretty, large, red-centred, initially white then maturing to soft pink flowers bloom the whole summer and in early autumn. Lavatera x clementii 'Barnsley' thrives in light, moderately fertile, moist, but well-drained soils, in full sun. It likes drier soils, and once established, it can withstand drought. It is tolerant of cold but needs to be sheltered from harsh and drying winds in winter. In colder areas, best to be planted against a warm wall. Virtually, pest-free. Attractive to bees and butterflies. For better-looking shrub, it needs to be hard pruned in spring. Tree Mallow 'Barnsley' is an attractive, adaptable, long-flowering little shrub and a great addition to any garden - cottage, urban, rock and gravel, or coastal garden. Perfect for beds and borders, wall-side borders, and for growing in containers.
