Acer palmatum 'Little Red' is a small, compact, upright tree with leathery, lace-like, palmate, deeply lobed, red leaves, bright red in spring, deep maroon in summer, and fiery red in autumn. Small, inconspicuous flowers are followed by winged fruits. Japanese Maple ‘Little Red’ grows best in fertile, organically rich, slightly acidic, moist and well-drained soils. It prefers partial shade, but can withstand full sun. It thrives in sheltered, partially sunny spots and best leaf colour is achieved in partial shade. It is resistant to frost, but needs to be sheltered form harsh winter winds. Generally, pest-free and disease-free. Low maintenance plant. Pruning is not even recommended because it may ruin its natural shape. Acer palmatum 'Little Red' is a new Japanese maple variety, a beautiful and tough ornamental tree with amazing colours. It is perfect for small, informal, cottage, and urban gardens. Great for beds and borders. Excellent for growing in pots and containers.
