Acer pseudoplatanus Simon-Louis Frères is a popular, medium-sized form of common Sycamore. It has broad spreading, round to pyramid-shaped crown. It is popular for its variegated foliage. Young, leathery, five-lobed, leaves that emerge in spring are salmon pink and red, then turn green with cream and white speckles in summer. Yellow-green flowers appear in spring and are followed by winged samaras in early autumn. This plant is very resilient and easy to care for. It grows without problems on any type of soil as long as it is well-drained. It prefers full sun or partial shade. Since it tolerates draught, wind, urban pollution and salt, it’s a popular choice for planting in cities and coastal areas. Acer pseudoplatanus Simon-Louis Frères is named after the Simon-Louis Frères nursery at Plantieres in France where it was first cultivated in 1881. It is an interesting plant definitely worth of more attention.
