Phormium Tenax ‘Yellow Wave’, or New Zealand Flex 'Yellow Wave', is a robust, clump-forming, evergreen perennial with elegant, leathery, long, strap-shaped, arching leaves, striped lime green, butter-yellow and creamy-white, and tubular, yellow flowers on long, upright stems. Does not flower until fully mature. New Zealand Flex 'Yellow Wave' is adaptable to a wide range of soils, including poor ones, but doesn’t like too wet or waterlogged. It thrives in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils, in full sun to partial shade. It is tolerant of salt and drought, therefore, perfect for coastal areas. It can withstand cold, but frost can damage the foliage. It should be protected from harsh winter winds. Dead or damaged leaves should be removed in spring to keep the plant neat. Generally, disease-free. Phormium Tenax ‘Yellow Wave’ is a wonderful ornamental plant, prefect a specimen or accent plant in coastal, cottage, urban and rock and gravel gardens. Great for beds and borders and for growing in containers.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
