Mespilus germanica ‘Nottingham’ is a variety of medlar. The tree has an ornamental habit with twisting stems and dark green foliage. It produces white flowers in the spring. On smaller trees, it is wise to leave the fruit in situ and they will naturally mellow to a dark brown colour and the flesh will soften. The fruits are ripe when they are squeezed and the flesh is revealed looking like apple sauce. Mespilus germanica ‘Nottingham’ can also be used for making sauces, jellies and even marmalade.
