It is coming to the time of year now when many flowering shrubs have finished their spectacle of vibrant colour and interest. Although, it is great to see our evergreen trees here in Sussex are looking beautiful.
One evergreen tree that has still to display its splendour of delicate, scented flowers is Hoheria sexstylosa ‘Snow White’. Our plants have an abundance of buds and will give an excellent display of white, star-shaped flowers over the next few weeks.
Hoheria sexstylosa ‘Snow White’ has apyramidal shape, with an eventual height of 5m. The leaves are deeply serrated around the edges, giving a tooth like appearance. It can be pruned to keep its shape and height – you can use a hedge cutter for this rather than just pruning gently.
This tree is an ideal choice if you are looking for an evergreen plant for screenage, or just as a stand-alone specimen tree or shrub. We have them in stock as bushes and half standards.
Hoheria sexstylosa ‘Snow White’ is classed as a reasonably hardy tree and should be able to withstand temperatures between -5 to -10, as it originates from New Zealand. It will be happy in full sun in a good, well-drained soil. However, if you plant your tree in an exposed position or in adverse weather conditions it can suffer damage. We would recommend providing shelter in cold areas.
If you are looking for evergreen trees in Sussex, then a visit to Arundel Arboretum will not disappoint! Along with a good selection of Hoheria sexstylosa ‘Snow White’, we also have an excellent range of other evergreen trees in stock.
Why not pop in and take a look? We have various sizes and maturity to choose from and people always on hand to help you.
