Whether you need some privacy from a neighbour, some shade from the heat of the sun or a shield from our south coast winds our evergreens nursery stock a variety of specimens suitable for a range of positions and soil types. We are continuing to sell Photinia x fraseri ‘Red Robin’ for evergreen screenage hedging, along with Pittosporum and Myrtle. We also have in stock mature, evergreen trees which include Photinia x fraseri ‘Red Robin’, Ligustrum lucidum ‘Excelsum Superbum’ and Quercus Ilex.

Screenage shrubs continue to sell well, despite the warmer weather. We have just sold a large quantity of Laurels for screenage. This seems to be our largest market at the moment, and we continue to be recognised as an evergreens nursery stocking a good range of mature, evergreen plants for this purpose.

Today, here at the Arboretum we have been potting all day – another dry day with the sun on our backs and the pied wagtails non-stop catching insects to feed their chicks. They are constantly in and out of the polytunnel. They have learnt that the insects trapped inside can’t escape and are therefore easy pickings!

We have swallows nesting and it looks as though three chicks are about to fledge – I love my work and the abundance of nature that goes with it. We are so lucky at the Arboretum – we have such a beautiful setting and wildlife all around us.
